Application Performance Consultant
We are looking for a senior-level consultant to help diagnose and resolve a high-impact performance issue impacting a distributed workforce. This is a hands-on, high-visibility engagement where your expertise will directly improve user experience and application reliability.
What You’ll Do
- Application tuning and troubleshooting
- Analyze IPsec VPN performance, including latency, throughput, packet fragmentation, and encryption overhead
- Perform packet-level analysis using tools like Wireshark or similar
- Evaluate client-server application behavior during login and full profile load
- Determine whether issues stem from the network, application design, or both
- Partner with internal IT teams and application vendors to isolate root causes
- Deliver clear, data-backed findings and actionable insights
- Recommend remediation steps prioritized by impact and effort
- Advise on architectural improvements, such as alternative access or optimization strategies
- Optionally support implementation if needed
This is a remote, short-term, part-time consulting role that can flex around your current work, including after hours.
What You Bring
- Senior experience as an Application Performance Engineer
- Application tuning and troubleshooting
- Deep expertise with IPsec VPNs and remote access architectures
- Strong understanding of WAN latency and application performance
- Proven success in troubleshooting client-server or legacy enterprise applications
- Advanced packet capture and traffic flow analysis skills
- Ability to work independently and own outcomes end-to-end
- Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to Have
• Experience in insurance or financial services environments
• Familiarity with VPN versus RDP or virtualized access models
• Prior consulting or performance remediation experience
• Experience working directly with vendors to resolve application inefficiencies
