We are seeking a Lead BI Engineer to join our Data & Analytics team on a contract-to-perm basis (fully remote, US only).
This role has two main focus areas:
Primary: Own the ongoing maintenance and evolution of our enterprise Power BI semantic models (TMDL/Model.bim).
Secondary: Contribute to the Snowflake data warehouse build-out by extending the GOLD-layer dimensional models that feed Power BI and the broader analytics program.
This is an AI-first role. All BI and data warehouse development is performed daily inside Claude Code (Anthropic’s CLI coding agent) using an established multi-repo harness with custom skills, sub-agents, and MCP tools. Fluency with this workflow is required.Key ResponsibilitiesSemantic Model Maintenance (Primary)
Own enterprise Power BI semantic models (TMDL/Model.bim), including DAX measures, relationships, Row-Level Security (RLS), and workspace governance.
Maintain and optimize models for performance, sync with upstream Snowflake changes, and support report authors.
Optimize models and reports for Power BI Copilot (naming, descriptions, relationships, Q&A).
Snowflake Data Warehouse (Secondary)
Extend GOLD-layer facts and dimensions using Kimball dimensional modeling principles.
Collaborate with the data engineering team on scoped work rather than owning the warehouse layer.
AI-Assisted Workflow
Use Claude Code as the primary development environment for all model, DAX, and warehouse changes.
Extend the team’s custom skills and harness as needed.
Review, validate, and take full ownership of all AI-generated output before deployment.
Mentor others on BI best practices and the AI workflow.
Required Skills
7+ years in Business Intelligence, with 3+ years of deep focus on Power BI semantic modeling (beyond report building).
Strong expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and TMDL/Model.bim.
Hands-on experience with dimensional modeling (facts/dimensions) in a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake strongly preferred).
Solid understanding and application of Kimball methodology across warehouse and semantic layers.
Required: Daily, hands-on experience with Claude Code (or similar agentic CLI coding agent). Must be able to work within a multi-repo harness, write custom skills, use sub-agents, and own AI-assisted output.
Experience with RLS and Power BI workspace administration.
Experience optimizing semantic models for Power BI Copilot.
Comfortable contributing scoped work to a data warehouse primarily owned by data engineering.
Preferred Skills
Experience building custom tooling for AI coding agents (skills, MCP, sub-agents).
GitHub Actions CI/CD and GitHub review workflows.
Exposure to SSRS, SSAS Tabular migrations, or Azure Data Factory.
Background in financial services, foundations, or nonprofits.
Must be authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship available). Work 100% remote on EST schedule.
